I'm putting this as a spoiler just in case, I think it's suicide and the suspects have a connection to the burglary that the witness kids parents were killed in and the lady is trying to put the blame on them because of that even so using a small child as a witness is horrible, this is going to scar that poor orphan for life like he hasn't got it hard enough already.
